Obama, the State of the Union, and Environmental Advocates

Yesterday, The New York Times, reported that some of President Obama's strongest campaign supporters are disgruntled with the President's recent endorsement of nuclear energy use. The President's supporters, environmental advocates, are not pleased with progress that has been made in environmental policy. They are now doubtful of seeing his campaign promises come to fruition due to the compromise the President is making for Republican votes. Click here to view the article.

  1. Hi Sara,

I was interested in the president Obama’s embrace of nuclear power plants because he mentioned Korea – my country – as one of countries exporting nuclear power plants technology. I cannot judge the decision of the president, but I assume this announcement has a thread of connection with what Obama has been saying about the environmental policy integrated with economy. As the result of the nucear power plants construction, he will expect roughly three benefits: creating employments, producing international competitiveness for the future, and using as an alternative energy to prevent the climate change. I believe that these three reasons should be the main concern when Obama decides to embrace the nuclear power plants despite of expecting lots of opponents against his will. Besides that, somebody criticize him to be changed his policy to get votes from Republicans. I am not the United States citizen, but I hope the public can see what is the best policy for the U.S.A in the long term.

    Thanks.
